All Kerala Painting/Cartoon Competition

The Shankar's All Kerala Painting/Cartoon
competition is held in the memory of the world famous 'Cartoonist
Shankar'. Born in 1902 at Kayamkulam, Kerala as Sankara Pillai,
he worked in Bombay Chronicle, Free Press Journal and Hindustan
Times. He also published a magazine called Shankar's Weekly. He received several national and international honor's and
awards such as Padma Sree, Padma Bhushan, PadmaVibhushan, Order
of Smile etc. In 1949 he started a Painting competition for
Children, which was the first of its kind in the world. That was the
beginning of Shankar's Painting Competitions. Shankar also started a unique museum for dolls.
He died in the year 1989.
Shankar's painting/cartoon contest is held in 100 countries all
over the world. Nearly 2 lakh children participate in the contest
every year. We have been conducting this festival of drawings and
colors at Kottayam for the last thirteen years. Mr. Ravi, son of Shankar,
will be present at the event.

Eligibility
|
|
Contests are open to students of classes 1
to 12. Painting contest will be held in five groups viz. A,B,C,D & E
according to the table shown above. Cartoon Contest will be held in
one combined group.

| Registration |
|
Contestants taking part in Painting and Cartoon
contests should register their names by returning the application
form duly filled together with a fee of Rs.10/-. Registration should
be done on or before last date, either in person at our office or by M.O. Participants shall report at
the venue 30 minutes before the commencement of the contest.

| Awards and
Prizes |
|
Entries adjudged best in the Cartoon and Painting
categories will be awarded SHANKAR’S MEDALS made of pure
silver by CHILDREN’S BOOK TRUST, NEW DELHI. Next two winners
in each age group will be presented with Darsana trophies.
There will be, 30 consolation prizes in addition to the 10
special prizes sponsored by DC Books. Further to this 15
contestants from each group will be presented with merit
certificates on rank basis.

The decision of the Judges in all matters shall be final. |
| General |
|
Contestants should bring the required drawing
materials such as colours, brushes etc. except paper, which shall
be provided by the organisers. Subjects for different age group
will be announced at the venue. All, except the prize winning entries
will be returned to the contestants. Copyright of all entries shall
reside with Baladarsana. Only contestants will be allowed inside
the enclosure. Parents, teachers and other adults will be required
to stay outside.
