Office Management and Secretarial Assistance with
Computer Support
This Centre for Professional Education under the Darsana Academic Institute offers regular course of 1 year duration in Office Management and Secretarial Assistance. Every organisation needs efficient administrators and well qualified secretaries. Many young people remain unemployed due to lack of necessary training and practical knowledge in available jobs. It is beyond the scope of general education which aims at mass production of degree holders, to give professional orientation and individual attention needed for the training. The special tastes and talents of each one has to be identified, nurtured, guided and developed to enable the individual to become what she should be.

The course will enable the candidate to adjust themselves to an ever changing variety of employment situations. It is a full course with demonstration supplemented by practicals, visits to various types of organisations, talks by senior executives and experienced persons etc.

After completing the theory part, students will be given on the job training without any remuneration in offices. However, the availability of this facility depends on the vacancies in such organisations and the merit of the students.

 

Eligibility

The minimum qualification for admission is Pre-degree/+2. But candidates with a Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent will be preferred. The medium of instruction is English. However, eligibility maybe relaxed in the case of applicants sponsored by organisations.

 

Admission

Application for admission must be made in the prescribed form supplied along with the prospectus on payment of Rs.50/-. The cost of prospectus and application form does not include the application fee.

 

The application should be accompanied by the following:-
1. Two copies of recent passport size photograph of the candidate.
2. Attested copies of:-
    a) Date-of-Birth Certificate
    b) Mark lists of SSLC, PDC/+2 and Degree Exams
    c) Character certificate from the head of the institution last attended.

 

Selection will be made on the basis of written test, discussion and interview. In the written test the candidates are evaluated on the basis of their ability for comprehension and clear thinking, for self-expression in simple language and presenting ideas systematically. In group discussion the candidates are assessed on the basis of their self expression, facility in relating oneself to the group and one's resourcefulness in the discussion. In the interview candidates are evaluated on knowledge of their optional subjects and general issues related to social sciences.

The candidates selected, are admitted on payment of the prescribed fees within the fixed time limit. The Original Certificates has to be submitted at the time of admission.

 

Duration and Timings

The course duration is from July to February/March every year. It is a full time course from 9:30am to 3:30pm on all weekdays.

Examination

The course is divided into two Semesters. The examinations will be conducted by a Board of Examiners consisting of the Director as Chairman, the Principal, representatives of the Staff and experts from outside as members.

Students adopting or resorting to unfair means in the examinations will be debarred from the examinations for 2 years.

A Diploma will be awarded to successful students after the announcement of results. The following merit rating will be made on percentages of marks scored

40% to 49%
IIIrd division
50% to 59%
IInd division
60% and above
Ist division

75% of marks and above will be considered as distinction and this will be indicated in the Diploma.

 

Hostel

The Institute will arrange hostel facility for students in good ladies hostels at Kottayam. But this will be subject to the availability of rooms in the hostel and will be on a first come first serve basis. Hostel availability can be confirmed at the time of admission.
